Q: I am taking blood pressure medicine, Norvasc 5 mg daily once a day and my BP is 138/80. I have purchased Resperate to lower the blood pressure, but have not yet received it. Can I stop taking the Norvasc? A: Drugs for high blood pressure should only be stopped under the direction of your doctor. How Dyazide Reduces Blood Pressure Dyazide is a combination of (triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide)(HCTZ). Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that decreases the amount of fluid in your body by increasing the amount of salt and water you lose in your urine. Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that also prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting too low.
