November 24, 2002 Better Blood Pressure Through Breathing If you have high blood pressure, you now can breathe easier. The RFSPeRATE is the first nondrug device approved by the FDA to reduce blood pressure without the side effects of medication. In clinical studies, the device drops systolic pressure (the first number in a reading) 14 points, on average, and diastolic pressure 9 points. It analyzes your breathing rate with the help of a sensor-equipped belt that wraps around your torso. You are then guided through therapeutic breathing exercises that relax the muscles around small blood to lower blood pressure. - By Wayne Kalyn
